The igphp e.V. – A Network for PHP Developers and Much More

Last weekend, the annual general meeting of the Interessengemeinschaft PHP e.V. took place at a physical location for the first time. After being founded in 2017 and waiting for its recognition as a non-profit organization, the association had been operating in the background. With its first public appearance at FrOScon last year, it stepped into the public spotlight. Over the past six months, the association has nearly quintupled its membership. That alone shows that the idea and concept of the association are on the right track.

So what does the association actually do? As the name suggests, the Interessengemeinschaft PHP e.V. represents the interests of the PHP world. What does that mean in detail? We at TEQneers see the association as a unique network for PHP developers. There is hardly an easier way to connect with other PHP developers in the German-speaking world. Among its members you will also find many big names of the German PHP scene. With excellent contacts to the PHP core developers — even to founding father Rasmus Lerdorf himself — the association provides a voice into the international community. Previously, the PHP community was hard to reach for outsiders; now there is a channel to the right people in and around PHP.

But the association does not stop there. One of its main goals is also the dissemination and promotion of PHP in science and education. Teaching materials, supervisors for academic papers, presentation materials and much more will follow in the coming months.
